Shipper Residence

The house in Princeton, New Jersey started out as a renovation, but quickly became a complete re-do on top of the older foundation. The new warm and transparent plan by the architects allowed incredible opportunities to connect the landscape plan with the interior of the house. While in the house, the landscape is always present, and in many instances the flow of circulation and materials extends visually and physically through the glass to the outside. The pool, with underwater seating and table, was made to fit around an existing Japanese Maple of incredible stature. The pool area also serves as an exotic but otherwise practical extension to the kitchen. Other large trees were also preserved on the site in order to give this contemporary landscape a feeling maturity and grandeur that cannot be purchased new at a nursery.
